Why Cats Bombed At The Box Office

Money No Comments »

Let’s all pay our condolences to Cats as it fades away to the Heaviside Layer. The film adaptation of the famous Andrew Lloyd Webber stage musical finally hit theatres on December 20th, 2019, and audiences have been passionately avoiding the film ever since. Here’s what went wrong with Cats.

Well, the box office numbers have rolled in for director Tom Hooper’s misguided movie-musical, and let it suffice to say, they aren’t exactly the cat’s meow. In fact, they’re absolutely abysmal. Initial box office estimates predicted that Cats would earn about million on its opening weekend. But when the film opened – against Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, no less – it pulled in a dismal .5 million domestically. That is to say, the box office returns were effectively in the litter box.

Such numbers would be acceptable for, say, a limited-release art film. But it’s completely unacceptable for a tentpole Christmas release packed with triple-A talent – particularly since the film cost approximately 0 million to make. A poor outcome for Cats was rather expected, but the severity of its opening weekend failure is still rather surprising.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but this is a serious box office bomb we’re talking about here… a major cinematic cat-astrophe. .2 million dollars on a wide-release opening day means that basically no one saw this movie. Meanwhile, pretty much everyone on the planet knew the film was happening. Seems like morbid curiosity just wasn’t enough to get people into those seats. That lack of curiosity killed Cats.

We can’t talk about Cats without talking about that soul-bending teaser trailer, which was released back in July 2019. What a day that was for social media. They say that “all press is good press,” but they clearly hadn’t seen the Cats teaser trailer before making that statement. Many people reacted with abject horror when they got their first look at the sprightly CGI cats, recoiling in horror at all the chirpy celebrity faces grafted onto furry bodies. Some folks hoped against hope that the film was still very much a work in progress. Keep watching the video to see why Cats bombed at the box office!

NCAA Football was an American football video game series developed by EA Sports in which players control and compete against current Division I FBS college teams. The series is a younger brother to the Madden NFL series.

In July 2013, the NCAA announced that it would not renew its licensing contract with Electronic Arts because of an ongoing legal dispute regarding the use of player likenesses in the games. However, this contract only covers the use of the NCAA name and related logos, not those of individual schools and conferences, which are negotiated individually or through the Collegiate Licensing Company. The CLC concurrently announced that it would extend its existing licensing deal with EA through 2017, ensuring that EA Sports could continue the series without the NCAA branding. However, the series was placed on hiatus in September 2013, following three major conferences pulling their trademark licenses from EA, and uncertainties surrounding the results of lawsuits involving the use of player likenesses in-game. However, EA Sports is still making an attempt to get the series back going.

Players’ real names and exact likenesses are not used in the game. While the Madden Welcome to the 2015 Orange Bowl where two of the hottest teams in college football will kick off the College Football Playoff when No.1 Clemson and No. 4 Oklahoma face off. The Tigers are the country’s last undefeated program after ripping through the ACC and ranked opponents like No. 8 Notre Dame, No. 9 Florida State and No. 10 North Carolina. The Sooners can’t match that perfect record thanks to an early-season upset to 5-7 Texas, but wins over No. 11 TCU, No. 16 Oklahoma State and No. 17 Baylor have validated their late run to football’s final four.

NFL series uses real player names and likenesses, those players are compensated for the use of their image. Due to NCAA restrictions on the amateur status of athletes, names are not allowed. Additionally, current college players cannot be used as cover athletes. Instead, each cover features a player whose college eligibility ended the season before the game’s release, wearing his former college uniform. The only two exceptions have been the Wii version of NCAA Football 09, which featured Sparty, the mascot of Michigan State University, on the cover, and NCAA Football 06 when Desmond Howard was featured on the cover striking the Heisman Trophy pose during his career at Michigan, despite not playing for Michigan for more than 15 years.

Although EA Sports does not claim that the players in the game represent real life players, the jersey number, position, height, weight, home state, and ethnicity are aligned with the real players. Fans of any particular team are sure to recognize their favorite players (for example, in NCAA Football 2014, University of North Carolina Tar Heels QB #2 would correspond to QB Bryn Renner). Actual usage of a player’s real name would be in violation of the NCAA’s policy regarding student athletes. Amateur “roster makers” will often manually associate player names and will upload a roster file to the built-in roster sharing system. As of the 09 release, EA has put in the EA Locker feature which allows remote roster sharing online through either Xbox Live or PlayStation Network depending on the console.

March Madness is one of the biggest events in American sports. Sixty-eight college teams get invited to the Big Dance, but by early April, there’s only one team left. The tournament may be about upsets, underdogs and uplifting narratives, but it’s also about the money.

The NCAA’s Division I men’s basketball tournament draws in millions of viewers and rakes in more than 0 million each year from its television deal alone. That makes up more than 75 percent of the association’s yearly revenue. But it’s not just the NCAA that makes money. The coaches are often the highest-paid public employees in their state, and gamblers also stand to make big returns on risky wagers. The NCAA did not return CNBC’s request for comment.

Watch this video to find out more about the money behind March Madness.

WHY 90% OF TRADERS LOSE MONEY

3 FREE TRADING LESSONS | https://www.skyviewtrading.com/free-lessons/

There are 4 big mistakes almost every trader makes. Luckily, they can be easily fixed. These mistakes I highlight in this video are probably things you haven’t heard before.

Luckily we can flip these points around and come up with a very powerful trading strategy. Charlie Munger once said, “problems frequently become easier to solve if you turn them around in reverse… unless you’re more gifted than Einstein, inversion will help you solve problems”.

This is what I did in this video. I use inversion to show you exactly why 90% of traders lose money, and how you can capitalize on their mistakes.
